Subject: Environment Agency Hertfordshire and North London - April 2021 Water Situation Report
Do you want to know how much rain has fallen in the Hertfordshire and North London Area during April or how high the river flows were?
River Bulbourne at Mandalyns
The Environment Agency routinely measure and monitor the environment to assess the water situation across the Hertfordshire and North London Area.
We do this for:
* the amount of rain that falls;
* how dry the soils are (and how much rain they can soak up);
* the amount of water flowing in rivers;
* the amount of water stored below ground in aquifers.
Every month a Water Situation Report is produced by Hydrologists in the Environment Agency.
The April 2021 edition is available here. <https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/water-situation-local-area-reports>
Summary – April 2021
The Hertfordshire and North London Area received just 7% of the long term average rainfall during April. Soil moisture deficits greatly increased during the month and ended more than double the long term average. Monthly mean flows ranged between notably low and notably high flows with a marked difference between our clay/urban and Chalk catchments. Groundwater levels declined at all our sites except Therfield Rectory and ranged between normal and notably high levels.
