Subject: Hertfordshire and North London - May 2021 Water Situation Report
Do you want to know how much rain has fallen in the Hertfordshire and North London Area during May or how high the river flows were?
River Mimram at Kimpton
The Environment Agency routinely measure and monitor the environment to assess the water situation across the Hertfordshire and North London Area.
We do this for:
* the amount of rain that falls;
* how dry the soils are (and how much rain they can soak up);
* the amount of water flowing in rivers;
* the amount of water stored below ground in aquifers.
Every month a Water Situation Report is produced by Hydrologists in the Environment Agency.
The May 2021 edition is available here. <Water situation: area monthly reports for England 2021 - GOV.UK>
Summary – May 2021
The Hertfordshire and North London Area received 175% of the long term average rainfall during May. Soil moisture deficits remained similar to last month and ended the month above the long term average. The majority of our flow indicator sites recorded above normal monthly mean flows while the remaining sites recorded notably high flows. Groundwater levels declined at all of our indicator sites and ranged between normal and notably high levels.
